About Our School

Welcome to Aberford C of Primary School. We are a small village primary school, situated in the picturesque village of Aberford on the Eastern outskirts of Leeds. Our school is tucked away behind St Ricarius church towards the top of School Lane.  Most of our families walk to school and, as we don’t have parking spaces for parents outside school (unless you have a disabled badge), visitors usually park on the main road. We also have bike racks in school so that the children can cycle to school or come on their scooters.

Our Grounds and Building:

The building dates back to 1716 when it was a tithe barn. In 1817 we were established as a national school. As a result, the school buildings are interesting and full of character.

The main building houses our Reception and Year 1/2 classrooms, our maths intervention room and a school hall which is used for many activities including collective worship and indoor PE as well as doubling up as our dining room. Across from the main building we have our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 classrooms.  Our library is housed in the building behind the main school. This also offers extra space for additional learning activities throughout the day.  We have a playground with a quiet seating area, a bouldering wall and basket ball hoop.  We also have a field at the back of the playground with a trim trail for the children to use, thanks to funds provided by our PTA to maintain this.

The view from our playground, across the fields of the Parlington Estate and across to the wind turbines in the distance, is a beautiful and calming outlook and we feel that our children are very privileged to be educated in such a tranquil and welcoming setting. Our PTA works hard to maintain the gardens and raised beds and improve the garden areas used by our school.

Our Published Admissions Number is 14. Our school is increasingly popular and we are often oversubscribed in many year groups. We usually have  around 100 children usually on roll, from Nursery through to Year 6, who are organised into four classes:

  • Class 1 - Nursery and  Reception
  • Class 2 - Year 1 and 2 children
  • Class 3- Year 3 and 4 children
  • Class 4 - Year 5 and 6 children

Our school receives strong support from governors, parents and our PTA. They are regularly involved in school activities. We are very proud of our school and hope that this website will help us to share all of the wonderful things that happen here. All stakeholders were involved in shaping our aims and values including children, staff, governors and parents.
